A Little Entertainment
Posted on | January 24, 2010 | No Comments
I’ve been building chicken coops, tree houses, compost bins, tables, sheds, laying hard wood floors, installing base boards and switching out crown molding. I can tell you that I’m ready for a little entertainment. I’ve never been to this particular rodeo but I hear it is one of the best… that is the Houston Live Stock Show and Rodeo.
It’s everything that a rodeo should be and has a splash of great entertainment. There’s just something about the raw action of a rodeo that I like. I spend a lot of time working with my hands and I like to watch others work while I’m entertained! Make no mistake that those rodeo pros are working when they’re riding those bulls! But the Houston Rodeo is more than just a rodeo. There’s a premium live stock show and the true icing on the cake is the live music entertainment. The show runs from March 2nd to March 21st and, if you haven’t already, you have to take a look at the line-up. They kick it off with Alan Jackson, Dierks Bentley, Kenny Chesney, Mary Blige, Jason Aldean, Jonas Brothers, Tim McGraw, Darius Rucker, Rascal Flats and many others. It’s a great series of events.
I’m thinking about the entertainment suites this year and if you haven’t looked into tickets yet this year, maybe you should: Houston Rodeo concert tickets
Time is of the essence

This might seem a bit off the normal DIY topics that we cover on this blog, but I feel compelled to tell you about a site I cam across that sells watches. My wife has recently started running in the mornings, and I though I would be a good husband and find her a watch that she core wear for her runs as well as for casual outings. Truth be told, I was really excited when she picked up running because it gives me a little time in the morning to work on my DIY projects. Right now, I’m building a boat from plywood. Again, it sounds random, but you have to trust me. It will float!
Oh yeah, about the watch. The one I picked for here was a casio pathfinder and it met my requirements pretty easily. It was a great price, it looked good, and she can wear it running (while I am working on my diy boat!)
I try not to go too far off the do it yourself topics, because there are way more projects than I ever have time to write about. But, I figured that you might be in a similar situation that I am. You might be thinking about a nice gift for your wife. And, you might find this site useful. There is no doubt that DIY projects take time, so make sure you take care of the people in your life that facilitate your DIY habits! I know it isn’t exactly like other habit forming things in the world, but it’s hard to deny that you don’t get a little addicted to projects you can pull off on your own!
New Years Resolution?
Posted on | January 5, 2010 | No Comments
One of the most popular New Years Resolutions is “to quit smoking”. Maybe you don’t have to, per say. Most people want to quit smoking because it’s bad for you. Mainly, they are concerned about the lung cancer and the tar created in the lungs when people smoke. I came across another blog that is promoting the Electric Cigarette. Crazy?
I’m not a smoker but I have many people in my family that always want to quit smoking. They know that it smells up their clothes and homes. They also complain about the price. Well, I’m not sure the electric cigarette can save smokers any money but it seems like a much safer way to go. You still get the nicotine and, according to this guys blog, they come in many flavors. The patch is very similar. You still get the nicotine fix without the smoke.
The electric cigarette actually helps people that have the oral fixation as well which would make it seem better than the patch. Anyway, this guy, Andy Gray, has a blog that talks all about the various kinds of electric cigarette choices. Apparently, these electric cigarettes are known as e-cigs and Andy Gray is spending his free time becoming an authority on the subject. He seems like a down to earth guy with a passion for the product. You should check out his blog especially if you’re looking to quit smoking as your New Year Resolution.
Wii Fit

Who knew that there would be all these accessories with your video game consoles these days! I remember Pacman, Frogger, and Burger Time. I remember when super mario brothers was cutting edge technology!
Now, take a second and consider video games have come full circle. It used to be that video games were a sign of inactivity and sluggish lifestyles (and yes, there’s still quite a bit of that). I have to give the Nintendo Wii a lot of credit. I LOVE Wii Fit. It’s an awesome concept. Have fun while working out! Why not? Isn’t that the whole point??? If you’re going to play video games, that’s the way to do it.
I remember being on cruise with the Navy and I made a rule with myself. I could play Halo II as long as I was riding the stationary bike. I brought a small stationary bike that fit in my stateroom and the miles I put on that thing. I’d play and ride for 2-3 hours at a time. I got in GREAT aerobic workouts because I wasn’t on a timeline, I want forced to stare at a wall and ride while I watched the seconds tick away until I could stop.
Have fun and work out. Nice job to Nintendo for coming up with Wii Fit. Perfect for a New Years resolution that will last. You’ll just have to “assemble” the accessories to the Wii and start assembling your physique!
Remote Control
Posted on | December 29, 2009 | No Comments
It’s truly amazing with the assembly of networks, the ability to connect anywhere. As we move into the future, more and more things are going to be accomplished remotely. Things will be monitored via computers which will send status updates to remote location for centralized monitoring. For the most part, the technology is already there. It’s just a matter of the infrastructure catching up.
The coolest feature of the remote monitoring is the ability to upgrade and repair glitches from a far. Consider the technology used to monitor sattelites. It’s not like we send a repair man up there with 24 hour repair service!
But bringing it back to earth, many companies use remote control software to update their computers, especially for employees out in the field. I’ve been part of several companies that take advantage of remote control software and use it to take control of their computers from a remote location. It’s certainly more efficient.
With remote control software, the IT tech can take control and see the remote computer allowing them to troubleshoot through the control panel, download software and get a visual understanding of the problem. It’s much easier than trying to get a verbal over the phone.
Anyway, all of this technology is a result of assembling networks! As we always say, assembling is good!!!
Looking ahead

I know it’s a little early but I live in a warmer climate and I still sneak out to my grill every chance I get. Grills are just awesome. Whether charcoal or gas, food just seems to taste better on them. Also, there’s something that just makes you feel a little closer to nature when cooking outside. I really enjoy cooking over an open flame but it’s not quite as practical with the hustle and bustle of twenty first century living!
Anyway, I’m thinking ahead to my spring days here in Texas and looking forward to breaking out my Barbecue Tools, cooking up some t-bones and napping in the hammock. During the winter, I’ll sneak out every chance I get so that I can stay in practice!
I will say that it does make a difference in the cold weather. The grill doesn’t get quite as hot as it does in the summer time. Quite often I cook my chicken with the grill cover off and it takes a little longer in the cold weather to cook through my chicken. Of course, cooking my steaks is all about max heat. I get the grill as hot as I can, sear both sides and serve up medium rare!
Anyway, just looking ahead. In the mean time, I’ll snuggle up to the fire inside and try my hand at a roast and 5 hour stew until grilling season arrives!
No Assembly Required this Time

One of the things I like to do when I’m not building chicken coops, bat houses, catapults, potato cannons or computers is travel. You can see that we have a few travel posts embedded within the blog.
Anyway, growing up in the 80’s and going through all of the nuclear drills in Southern Maryland when they told us that it was for “tornadoes” got me thinking as I got older. I thought, wow, we don’t really get many tornadoes in Maryland. My Grandparents in Iowa had seen tornadoes but I had never even heard of a tornado touching down in Maryland. Just the same, we did as many “tornado drills” as we did fire drills. As I got older, I began to understand. After all, I lived very close to our nations capital.
I began to learn the issue. Apparently, the United States and Russia (at the time) had enough nuclear weapons to destroy the earth many times over. It kind of made me chuckle at the drills I practiced so often in grade school. The idea of facing the wall on my knees with my hands over my head seemed like a pretty futile conquest given the possibilities. What it really got me thinking about was our competitor or enemy at the time. I wondered if they were doing similar drills in their grade schools. What was the real issue?
Granted, the ideals of Communism and Capitalism are quite opposite but destroying the world never seemed like much of a solution to anything. Anyway, time passed and the Berlin wall fell; one of the great historical events of my lifetime. I always said I would explore both Berlin and Moscow. I want to find out first hand what it was like as a child in Moscow during the same period. Did they do tornado drills too?
Unfortunately, I’m not on an unlimited budget. Even if I were, I still would want to get good value for my money. Besides airfare, finding a place to stay is the most expensive part of the trip. When I do go to Moscow, I’ll want to spend some time and may look for some longer term arrangements. I found this site on Moscow Hotels helpful as it reviews all kinds of hotels from 2 stars to 5 stars. It also reviews long term arrangement options. It’s just one place I start before I embark on a journey of questions and hope to return with a plethora of answers.
Assembling Thanksgiving!
Posted on | November 19, 2009 | No Comments
When you think about Thanksgiving Day, you want to assemble the perfect Thanksgiving Day. We’re here to help and preparing for Thanksgiving does require some assembly. You’ll need to think about assembling the meal and organizing the day! We want to help find some new websites on the block that are starting to develop some content. Thanksgiving Appetizers is an example of a website that is developing content for recipes of one of my favorite things to do at Thanksgiving. I love the appetizers on Thanksgiving Day. They are building a website all about appetizers. I love the concept of regional flavor and trying new things. I can’t wait until the site is fully up and running.
Next, you can’t consider Thanksgiving Day with out considering Thanksgiving History. It’s such a big part of our culture and the values that were part of the Plymouth colony are still applicable in society today. The truths that served as the backbone of their culture can be found in our Government and ingenuity. Understanding the hardship that the first Pilgrims endured in that first winter of the Plymouth Colony and the events leading up to that harvest festival in 1621 only helps most of us be more thankful for what we have.
Yes, Thanksgiving is a day of giving thanks but it’s also a day about fun and laughter. Granted, most Thanksgiving Jokes out there are corny but you should still look some up. Wait for the right time or a lull in the action and present a joke… it keeps the party going and that’s what it’s all about, even if the joke is a little corny.
We hope you assemble the perfect Thanksgiving! Let us know how it goes!

Deep Fry Turkey!
Posted on | November 18, 2009 | No Comments
Well, it’s turkey time! You’re going to have to start planning the big day if you haven’t already done so. It’s a day full of over eating, relaxation, friends and family; it’s a great day!
We believe in preparation. It’s like the boy scouts motto: “Be Prepared”. There’s a lot of value that comes from being prepared. The more people you’re going to have at your Thanksgiving Day feast, the more prepared you’ll need to be. How are you going to prepare your turkey? Honestly for a large crowd, we like the deep fry turkey method. The advantages are that you can fry up the turkeys quickly and they taste great. Many people agree that they’re the best prepared turkeys out there. It works for a large crowd because you can cook up several turkeys in a few hours and it keeps your ovens free for desert and side dishes. It’s one of our favorites. You may also need a fried turkey injection recipe which helps your turkey burst with flavor even more. There are many variations available on the web. You should pick one that sounds good to you. We’ve liked everyone that we’ve tried but we lean towards the Cajun style and more spicy recipes.

Make your dreams come true
Posted on | September 21, 2009 | No Comments
I always had an ambition to fly and it always my dream from a young child and I would tell my papa and my friends that one day I would become a pilot and would fly high and high till I touch the sky. But I was very disappointed because in my later years, I thought my dreams would be spoilt as I did not get admission in top aeronautical colleges and my papa had not enough funds to provide my that kind of education. I was totally frustrated and lost all hopes in life when my friend’s father suggested this top website and told me that there are details regarding private pilot training.
My joy knew no bounds and I immediately browsed the internet it had all the necessary details and things to be done if has the urge to learn to fly. With the money my father had, I was of course able to obtain private pilot license and I am now very very happy that my dream has come true and I thank the Almighty that I could achieve this in my life. Now my son who is ten years old also say that he also want to join his father’s profession and I definitely know that he too will become a pilot one day.
